This unique and dramatic residential superstructure has spectacular architectural style, and among the features there is a very high stud living area with two-storey high glazing on the exterior. Despite these demands, the superstructure of the house was able to be designed and built entirely in conventional timber-framed housing construction.
A grid of bored concrete piles extending to a maximum depth of 4 metres below ground level provided a cost-effective foundation solution, enabling the house to be built on a steeply sloping, marginal building site that is underlain by weak natural soils and layers of poor-quality fill.
